40 is such a good age. And you’re more handsome for it I think.

Hey I'm a new viewer and I'm having fun reading "will grayson, willgrayson"

The lack of blinking is incredibly unsettling.

I saw TFIOS when I was having down time. Thru Hazel and Gus' journey I woke up to see there's more to life that I can enjoy. Seeing your voracious appetite I'm more lifted. Thank you! Mr. Green.
P.S. Happy Belated Birthday.

Bless your heart, you precious little 40-year-old that is taller than I am and forever younger than I am. Age is irrelevant and I think you know that.

You look so good for 40 omg

suburban life was failure to you? That was my 'alright' if i'm being honest, maybe without the kid. as long as I have a middle class income I'll be fine, which is a bit sad really.

John do you even know how reassuring this video is? Thank you. Thank you so much.

I needed this, thanks Hank

every once in a while why don't you just sign a few pages so that the next time you put out a book you don't have to do as many in such a small time frame?

It warmed my heart so much that you not only mentioned the floods in US but even asian countries. We often talk about Africa, and the middle east, because lets face it, they are going through tough times, but as someone from southeast asia, I often felt like our problems rarely surface the media.

PS: Now that I am talking about Asia, can we have an Asian VidCon?
:P

On a rather serious note, I really hope that happens in a few years from now, regardless of whether I clear USMLE and practice medicine in the US. Seeing Hank and you, is like the first and last thing in my bucket list. I gave so much to tell you both. If I ever get to see you both, I know I won't have enough time to tell you both about how much you mean to me, and how you saved my life, so if I do get to have a meet and greet with you guys, I will most likely write all my feelings down on a paper and give that paper to you. Also, now that I think about it, your books are really popular in Southeast Asia too, so if you can tolerate the travelling, please consider an international book tour.

And, happy birthday John.

Since turning forty, I have never wished to be even a day younger. You couldn't pay me to be in my twenties again - and my twenties were pretty good on the whole! Why? Because I had to be alive for several decades to want to be exactly me, and nothing else.

I'm 30 and you just made 40 look more optimistic. I just hope to still to pursue my interests in life and not to have obligations progressively overshadow these my interests.

Oh wow, I am 40 too. Just not as (quite) rich or (slightly) famous.

Thank you for making this video. It made me feel a little better about growing up.

I have been writing an Anti-Adulting Manifesto. Most people see Adulting as being hyper-responsible, dower, down trodden, depressed, claustrophobic, penned in, unhappy, stressed to point of nervous collapse, feeling overwhelmed, feeling as though you are constantly on the hot seat to make critical decisions. Ultimately, the worst aftermath of Adulting of all; allowing your inner child to whither and die. Far too many people understand Adulting as being just that, allowing the world to beat you to a pulp, crushing, extinguishing your inner child.

When most people allow that to happen, allow themselves to crushed by responsibilities, by imagined requirements and loose site of and then murder your inner child, you are stuck in permanent Adulting mode. That is simply a level of sadness that I do not believe is part of the Human Condition, and as practicing Catholic Christian, it is counter to what my faith demands of me. Ergo, Anti-Adulting Manifest. There is a caveat, I have a list of 20 exceptions. During these exception you have to Major League Adult. When your inner child is murdered, you will never again feel joy, glee, excitement, anticipation, overwhelmed by seeing or doing something for the first time ever again. And that, frankly, is a price FAR to high to pat.

I'm watching this a little late. But Happy Belated Birthday! Mine was August 22nd and you summed up EXACTLY what I was feeling about turning 40. I did wish you Happy Birthday on Twitter but I knew you wouldn't respond 😔. Oh well. Stay awesome!

I'm 4 days younger than John and I was dreading this - even going to the point of asking my parents if that was REALLY when I was born. (I was really small for my age but I'm average-height now, I was born suspiciously close to labor day, so they could have nudged it back a couple weeks to not have me in the house for another year) When all was said and done, it wasn't too bad -- being so close to Labor Day was a great excuse to take a week off and drive to Quebec.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go out and shop for a brand new yellow sports car and/or minivan and/or trophy-spouse.

Happy Birthday John!! And thank you. I am in my late 20s but really liking my
boring office job, home, marriage, and baby. Maybe not glamourous or world-changing, but it's SO NICE. It's good to hear someone else validate that, because it seems like the only options presented to many are "Be boring but safe and hate it" or "Be wild and free and fun and hate everyone who isn't that way."

Happy birthday, John! Sorry I missed it this year.

A belated Happy Birthday to you Sir! As someone half way through the forties let me say "come on in the water is fine." I find myself enjoying this decade of my life more than the four previous. You get to experience things you have loved again and fresh through your children's eyes. While there is the blessing of old friends there also are new friendships which are easier because I am more comfortable in my own skin. May this year be a blessing to you and your family.
