+Ben Hofmeier there is no tool or procedure for priming the oil system although I do go a bit above and beyond on my rebuilds. First I use an engine assembly lube that I have alot of faith in (Federal Mogul assembly lube if you want to look it up) but I also make sure to fill the oil filter canister just before cranking, and there is an electronic compression test that I can run with my laptop which basically disables the injectors so I am able to crank the machine to prime the oil system without it firing up. On the non reusable service parts you have your typical bolts (head, connecting rod cap , craink main, rocker, sump, flywheel, blancer and dampener) but what might differ with modern machines like this is that its HPCR fuel system can produce something like 40,000 psi. Because of that, what I understand is they use a softer metal for the fuel line mating surfaces so they are a one time use item. Whenever removing injectors you have to replace the nozzle or bullet that runs to it, as well as all injector lines.
+elias medvecky thanks Elias. Like all these things I figured there would be a good reason for a set work flow and practice. It's really interesting though, thanks. Only problem now is you've sparked more questions in my mind. When you pre prime the oiling system, prior to start up, do you have a some fancy John deere tool to externally engage the engines oil pump or do you simply hand crank on an external pump to fill the oil galleries?In line with the torque to yield bolt set you mentioned for the oil pan, what else is a replaced fastener in an overhaul/reconditioning on this engine? I.e head bolts etc?

John Deere has terrible control and knowledge of what software bugs exist in the engine control modules (ECM) of any given tractor model. Likewise they have little idea what software fixes have been implemented. I'm a former software development engineer at John Deere and I have to say they have the worst software software management I've ever seen at any large company. Other top companies in both the automobile industry and DoD aviation and weapons development industries (like Boeing, Lockheed, and Raytheon Missile Systems) do good to amazing jobs of tracking their embedded software. The difference between them and John Deere is those companies have the willingness to employ people with the experience and knowledge to make it happen. John Deere engineering managers have no clue how to do it because they have no experience in doing so. However, they fear the experienced engineers from other companies who do have the experience. They fear that they will become obsolete due to their own lack of experience. Their way of protecting their own careers is to NOT create job openings for experienced engineers. They only create lower paying jobs for inexperienced engineers. John Deere wishes to work 30 years in the past and for this reason, John Deere products will continue to be more problematic and have lower quality products than many of its competitors. And customers pay more for these products due to the less efficient engineering development processes.

Paper plate has liner soap on it that Is used on the liner o-rings when installing cylinder liners into the block. Not sure what coffee cans you're asking about though
