The madmen over at the Roadster Shop were awarded this 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 by GM to create the ultimate Race Support Vehicle to look good, be fast enough to get racers back on the track, and have enough room for parts, tools, and gear. Adding a tip of the hat to the Pro Touring muscle cars it was meant to service, RS built it up with some custom touches to make it really stand out.
They first started with the engine to make it fast enough to rush out and restart a stranded racer. The 5.3L V-8 was fit with a Lingenfelter-supplied Magnuson TVS1900 supercharger with heat exchanger, install kit, cold-air intake, and ECU tuning that gave it an added 110 hp and 105 lb-ft of torque. Adding a Flowmaster 3-inch exhaust gave it a little oomph as well as made it sound just right.
Adding a whole stable of horses means that there needed to be some extra grip in the form of 285/35R24 Pirelli P Zero sitting on top of 24x10 B-Forged Series 829s in the front, with dually-size 405/25R24 Pirellis covering 24x14 Bs in the back. Extra stopping power is provided by equally massive 15-inch Wilwood brakes front and back.
McGaughy’s was responsible for the majority of the suspension with a 4/6 lowering kit, drop spindles in the front, with the rear getting an axle flip kit and shocks while retaining the leaves.
The body received a whole host of upgrades to make this everyday-capable hauler into the Pro Touring muscle truck that it became. RS had its work cut out for itself with a hood that incorporated two large custom-louvered scoops, making it look like a first-gen Camaro on steroids! The fenders had to be custom fabricated to fit the massive wheels, but the RS body experts had it covered grafting them in and then shooting custom mixed PPG Matte Charcoal. They then added a Rigid 50-inch LED bar on roof, strobes in the grille and tail, with a Warn winch, and relocated gas filler.
When the body was finished, attention was turned to the bed, giving it the functional side of being a support vehicle with a custom roof rack mated to a bed rack system over the bedsides with mounting points incorporated within. Inside, the bed houses two spare wheels and tires, a 5-gallon fuel jug, fire extinguisher, a Miller welding setup and tools to damn near fix anything. All the needed items received a custom cradle or mount to sit in and get locked down with Mac’s tie-downs.
Now this Race Support Vehicle Silverado is built to handle anything, from a small off-track mishap to a major repair using any number of tools in its bed. The Roadster Shop can run circles around the other support vans and even take home a Best of Show.
