This is the new Toyota Corolla! It’s fair to say previous generations of the Corolla (or Auris, as it used to be called) were known for being good value for money, but relatively dull. However, it seems Toyota is looking to put that reputation to bed with the all-new Corolla! But does the interior and drivability match up to the exciting new exterior style, especially when you consider it costs slightly more than a VW Golf or Ford Focus? Join Mat for his in-depth review to find out!

Dude, you haven't been to St. Petersburg nor know it's history. Can you talk about something you know please?

Why are Toyota cars so badly designed and un-appealing. Just a moving box!
Get foreign designers.

58 mpg isn't particularly impressive for a hybrid. Am I wrong? I think the fiesta petrol gets over 50 mpg without a hybrid engine.

+Jacob Thompson my brothers had three diesel A5s over the past ten years. Most he got was a letter from VW/Audi which I don't think he could make sense of. Meantime in USA you could hand you car back and get a refund. BMW, Mercedes and VW were all at it. When found out they tried to cover it up twice more after that. Even the German government where in on it. Merkel 2as personally aware of it!!?
I think we all know that if their engineers put their minds to it whether Toyota/Ford/VW they could produce a 100mpg car. Greed is the barrier.

19grand I know, it’s shocking. I had a 2015 Q5 at the time of Dieselgate... luckily I bought a Petrol model otherwise mine would have been affected.
Don’t get me wrong, with performance cars I don’t expect amazing mpg, but closer to the figures would be nicer.
Then again, my old Q5 was supposed to get 42 mpg, and over my 2 years of owning it I actually averaged 38mpg! (I don’t drive like a grandma either)

+Jacob Thompson they should be brought to task on that. Particularly the German car manufacturers - they seem to be able to get away with murder. The clean diesel scam was and is a disgrace! The only place they didn't seem to get away with it was the U.S. (I could go on all day!!).

58 mpg real world though... my wife’s 1.0 Polo is supposed to get 68.9 mpg and she only gets 53 mpg... I wish I got that, Audi claims 28 mpg for my S5... I barely get 12 😂😂

This guy tries too hard to be funny instead of just telling us about the car.

Looks a winner for Toyota. Great review Mat. At some point can you do an estate comparison between the Corolla, a VW group car (say Golf or Leon) and a Hyundai ?

According to this shitty review, there is nothing good about this car. :)

Ngl I like the way the buttons are grouped

Word finally reached Toyota because of the onslaught of Hyundai-Kia products that threaten to take some of their customers.
The new Corolla doesn't looks and feel cheap. Toyota not only has to keep up with Hyundai-Kia but Mazda as well.

You should review the corolla saloon as well.

Been thinking... Toyota Corolla Hybrid Icon Tech for same price (around £25k) as Hyundai i30N 250hp.... Think I'll take the i30N - sorry toyota.
[edit] JDM Corolla Hybrid costs around £18k...!

My sister used to have one of the older standard petrol engine corolla's and that always had incredible efficiency especially compared to the car I had at the time.

It's nice to see all the Hybrid cars.

Which engine was it?

If they did this with a light interior (not sure if they do) with white roof trim and light dash and seat materials I’d go for it straight away!

does it have paddle shifters? gonna test one in like 20 mins

No, it was called Petrograd right? Stalin changed it I’m pretty sure...

He meant that Leningrad wasnt its original name and they got back to Petersburg - the previous name. Like Corolla changed to auris and now got back to its original name.
