The modern way of burying a body, the "casket in the ground method" most of us are used to is horrible for the environment. It uses an incredible amount of resources, emits toxic pollutants into the air, and pumps the ground full of formaldehyde, which is known to cause cancer. It's also prohibitively expensive. The average cost of a modern funeral costs between $10,000 to $12,000.

There are a number of greener options available though. Cremation uses less resources and requires less space than a traditional burial, but isn't perfect. There are more experimental methods on the horizon such as promession and alkaline hydrolysis.

No matter which method we choose, it's clear that we need to reform how we bury the dead.

4:58 - that's how muslim do it. its nature friendly and its already written in the quran that we should bury the dead without anything added on except for a piece of white cloth that is not sewn. that's how they did it for muslims in malaysia.

Another idea is what me and several other people are doing is getting buried with a tree seed, in a way you live on because your body gives the tree nutrients and provides the world with oxygen, how cool is that

Also there is absolutely nothing harmful about it, only benefits

I use to think about how people over the past 2000 years how they did things like cared for the dead loved ones. Although history it has changed. They would bury in caves then they would set the body on fire and today depending what country or state laws. Like a hundred years ago people took pictures with their loved ones. Then the time u had kings and gueens in mid evil time I think u would call it. During that time u could be put to death for the smallest things. Or wars leaving thousands dead. And that went in for a long time. But as many deaths u don't see cemeteries or burial sites.. leaving me to think they would burn them. Or dig really deep holes and dumpling the bodies in it. Sorry if by asking this if I am sounding ignorant on this question.. Being native I just was never told.. I mean no disrespect. I just always thought about it.. where I live and my state people bury their loved ones, costing thousands to bury those they love.. Many families can't even afford to bury a loved one. So u got go fun me sites. But people abused it by lies, so they put people that have no money in a hard place. All thanks to sick greedy people. That karma I hope comes their way..

This reminds me of the channel Ask A Mortician. She recommends green funerals: no embalming, biodegradable casket or shroud, simple and good for the environment.

Donate organs to save lives and rest can go for SKY BURIAL !!

why would you want to be cremated? what if they develop super advanced technology to make dead people alive again? lol can't really do that if your ashes scattered across the ocean. also, your basically insulting human life, everyone deserves a coffin to be in after they die, it's just common decency, even if it takes a lot of resources. this logic is honestly flawed because you can use the exact same logic for PLENTY of other things that we have today.

Let's not forget cemeteries that dig up old graves to reuse plots of land.
